"We keep the Sabbath not to be saved, but because we are saved."
Pakinggan mo, parang ang ganda, 'di ba? It sounds very Evangelical. It sounds like a "fruit of faith." Pero bilang someone na galing din sa loob ng Adventism for many years, kailangan nating himayin ito. Let’s have some Real Talk.
Kaya ba talaga nilang patunayan na sila ay ligtas na kaya sila sumusunod, or is there a doctrinal contradiction na nagtatago sa likod ng "We obey because we love Him"?
The Conflict with the "Investigative Judgment"
Here is the apologetic problem: You cannot claim Full Assurance of Salvation while holding on to the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment (1844).
Sinusuri daw ni Jesus ang records sa langit to see who is worthy of the Kingdom. Ang tawag nila dito ay "Sanctuary Doctrine."
Kung totoo na "saved na sila kaya sila sumusunod," bakit may takot pa rin sa Time of Trouble? Bakit kailangan pa ng "Perfection of Character" bago bumalik si Jesus?
The Reality: Kung ang pangalan mo ay pwede pang burahin sa Book of Life base sa performance mo (especially sa Sabbath keeping), then you are not keeping the law because you are saved. You are keeping it to maintain your status and to pass judgment.
They are technically under "probation" until their name comes up in the judgment.
Sabbath: Sign of the Old vs. Rest of the New
Dito pumapasok ang ganda ng New Covenant Theology.
Sa Old Covenant (Exodus 31:13), ang Sabbath ay sign between God and Israel.
"In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit." Ephesians 1:13 (ESV)
If you have the Substance (Jesus), why go back to the Shadow?
A Pastoral Heart: Rest in the Finished Work
Mga kapatid, I am writing this not to attack, but to invite you to true rest.
That is a heavy yoke.
Pero ang alok ni Jesus ay iba:
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Notice that Jesus said, "I will give you rest."
We don't obey to prove we are saved. We don't keep shadows to secure our slot in heaven. We rest in the finished work of Christ on the Cross. Tetelestai. It is finished.
The Bottom Line
Doctrinally, mahirap.
As long as the Investigative Judgment hangs over their heads, their obedience is driven by the fear of failing the test, rather than the freedom of forgiveness.
Kaibigan, you are invited to step out of the courtroom and into the family room of Grace. You are loved not because of your Sabbath-keeping, but because of your Savior.
