A: Let’s get real. Ang argument na ito ay isang classic case ng genetic fallacy, the mistake of claiming that because something started a certain way, it carries that same meaning forever.

Actually, ang modern Mother’s Day na alam natin today was started in 1908 by Anna Jarvis, a devout Methodist, para i-honor ang Christian service ng nanay niya. Kung ang logic mo ay "may pagan roots ito kaya bawal," then we have a huge problem with your daily life.

The Point-to-Point Refutation

Pero logic check muna: The intent of the heart determines whether an act is worship or not. Under the New Covenant, we are free from the "shadows" and legalistic observance of days.

    • Is your God so fragile that He mistakes a "Happy Mother's Day" card for an animal sacrifice to a Greek goddess?

  2. The "Exodus 20:12" Twist: Sabi ng image, honor your mother "every day" but never on a specific day if the world does it. Teka, if we are commanded to honor them every day, does that not include the second Sunday of May? Saan sa Bibliya sinabi na "Honor your mother 364 days a year, except on the day the calendar says so"?

    • By avoiding Mother’s Day just because it’s on a specific date, aren't you actually letting "pagan calendars" dictate your behavior more than the command to love?

  3. The "Romans 12:2" Misuse: Ang "conforming to the world" ay tungkol sa moral decay at pagtanggi sa Gospel, hindi tungkol sa pag-iwas sa cultural holidays na walang kinalaman sa kasalanan. In fact, under New Covenant theology, we recognize that Christ has redeemed all things. Paul even says in Titus 1:15, "To the pure, all things are pure."

    * If your mind is truly "renewed," why are you still seeing demons in a bouquet of carnation flowers?

3 Questions for anti-Mother's Day:

1. The "Day of the Week" Examination:

"Kung ayaw mong mag-celebrate ng 'pagan' traditions, bakit ka sumasamba tuwing Saturday (Saturn’s Day) o nagtatrabaho tuwing Monday (Moon’s Day) at Tuesday (Tiu’s Day)? If names and origins determine the spiritual nature of a day, aren't you technically 'conforming' to planetary worship every time you look at your watch?"

2. The "Birthday" Examination:

If you celebrate your birthday or eat birthday cake but call Mother's Day 'pagan,' aren't you just cherry-picking which 'paganism' is delicious enough for you to keep? "

3. The "Health & Science" Examination:

Real Talk Reflection

"One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind." Romans 14:5

Call to Action:
This week, intentionally honor someone not because the law demands it but because the love of Christ in the New Covenant compels you. Buy those flowers. Give that hug. The Gospel has set you free from the fear of calendars.
