Resting God’s Way: It’s Not About the Day, It’s About Jesus!

When people hear the word “Sabbath”, they often picture strict rules, quiet afternoons, or debates about which day Christians should worship. Is the Sabbath still a big deal for believers today? The answer might surprise you—it’s actually a matter of personal conscience.

In the Old Testament, the Sabbath was a special command for Israel. It reminded the
m to rest, worship, and remember how God rescued them from slavery. It was a big deal for them because it was part of their covenant with God. But when Jesus came, He fulfilled the whole law — including the Sabbath (Matthew 5:17). Now, instead of finding rest on a particular day, we find it in Jesus Himself (Matthew 11:28-30).

The New Testament makes it clear that Christians aren’t required to keep a specific day anymore. Romans 14:5 says, “One person thinks one day is more important than another day, while someone else thinks all days are the same. Each person should be sure about their own beliefs in their own mind.” In other words, it’s up to you. Some people feel blessed by setting aside a day for rest and worship. Others treat every day as a chance to serve and enjoy God. And both are okay.

Even though we’re not commanded to keep a Sabbath, the idea of rest is still wise. God created us to work and rest in rhythm. Taking regular time to slow down, pray, and enjoy life isn’t a rule — it’s a gift. Some go to church on Sundays. Others might find peace in a midweek Bible study or quiet morning walks. What matters isn’t the day you pick, but the heart behind it.

So whether you rest on Saturday, Sunday, or a random Wednesday, remember: it’s not about rules — it’s about grace. Jesus is our real rest, and we’re free to enjoy Him every day. Let’s be kind to one another, make room for worship and rest, and live in the freedom Christ gave us.

Which day do you find rest in God? Share in the comments — let’s encourage one another!
