“Second Coming: Saved Already, or Not Sure?”

Hebrews 9:28 (NIV) "So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him."

Let’s talk about something that hits hard for those of us who grew up inside the Adventist system.

You know how the story goes. Our SDA friends love to flex the name "Adventist." They’ll proudly tell you they wear that name because they are the only ones truly ready for the Second Coming. The claim is that they are the "remnant church" of Revelation 12:17. Because they strictly keep the Ten Commandments, especially the Saturday Sabbath, they believe they're the elite squad, the only ones packed and ready for Jesus to return.

But let’s get real for a second, especially for the younger ones trying to figure out their faith: Who is really waiting for the Second Coming? Are you waiting as someone who is saved already, or as someone who is not yet sure?

Growing up with that "remnant" mindset was exhausting. You’re told you are waiting for Jesus, but deep down, you secretly hope He delays. Why? Because you aren't 100% sure your name will pass the Investigative Judgment. You worry about that one unconfessed sin, whether you kept the Sabbath perfectly, or if you accidentally ate something wrong.

That’s what happens when you live under the Old Covenant. Mixing the Law with the Gospel doesn't make you holier; it just crushes you. You end up waiting for the Second Coming like a student terrified of seeing their final grades. That isn't a "blessed hope." That’s just pure spiritual anxiety.

Here’s the core of New Covenant Theology: Jesus already fulfilled the Law for us. We aren't saved by how well we keep the Ten Commandments. We are saved by grace, through faith in what Christ already finished on the cross.

Because of that, our standing with God is secure. Yes, our relationship with Him is dynamic; we choose to trust and follow Him daily, but our salvation rests entirely on Jesus. We don't need a heavenly court investigation to see if we're "worthy." When Hebrews 9:28 says Jesus brings salvation to those waiting for Him, it means the final completion of our salvation, like getting our resurrected bodies. It doesn’t mean we wait around to find out if we made the cut. We wait as kids excited for their Father to come home, not as suspects sweating bullets in front of a judge.

Look closely at Hebrews 9:28: Jesus returns "not to bear sin." This simple phrase completely debunks the idea of an 1844 Investigative Judgment or a "final atonement" process. In the Adventist system, sin is still being audited, transferred, and dealt with in a heavenly sanctuary phase. But Hebrews makes it clear: Christ’s work of bearing sin was finished 2,000 years ago on Calvary. When He ascended, He sat down because the purification for sin was complete (Hebrews 1:3). When He comes back, He isn't coming to audit books or handle sin records, He is coming to bring the full, glorious arrival of the salvation we already possess in Him.

How we view the end times changes how we live right now. The old Adventist narrative programmed us to believe the world is just going to get worse and worse. We were taught to be paranoid, watching out for a National Sunday Law, global persecution, and a "Time of Trouble" where the church barely survives.

But when you actually study the Scriptures, the picture is completely different. Many of those scary apocalyptic prophecies in Revelation already happened in the first century. God already judged that old, broken system. We don’t need to live in fear of some secret barcode on our foreheads.

The Kingdom of God isn't a sinking ship. Jesus described it as a mustard seed that grows massive, or yeast that works through the whole batch of dough. The gospel is actually winning. Christ is ruling right now, and through His church, nations are being discipled.

Waiting for the Second Coming isn't about escaping a defeated planet. We aren’t hiding in the mountains waiting for a rescue chopper. We are waiting for the King to arrive to receive a world His gospel has already conquered.

To the younger generation reading this: don't let anyone hijack your peace. You don't have to prove you’re part of the "remnant" by keeping obsolete rules. You belong to Jesus. You can look forward to the Second Coming with a massive smile, knowing you are already accepted, loved, and victorious.

Take a deep breath and let go of the end-times anxiety today. Do you know someone who is still stressed out about the Investigative Judgment or trying to earn their salvation through the Law? Share this post with them. And drop a comment below: How has understanding the New Covenant changed the way you view the Second Coming?
