Tara Bible Study Tayo! "Pre-Wrath Rapture: Makatotohanan ba?"

Bible student:

Totoo ba yung pre-wrath position, Pastor?

Pastor Ronald:

Ah, social media eschatology! Haha! Mark, you get rid of your frustration. Fair and square, ha?

Bible student:

Sige po, Pastor! So ano ba talaga yung pre-wrath rapture view?

Pastor Ronald:

Okay, so yung pre-wrath rapture theory popularized ni Marvin Rosenthal noong 1990s nagsasabi na ang rapture ay mangyayari within the 70th week ni Daniel, specifically pagkatapos ng "great tribulation" pero bago dumating yung "wrath of God" o Day of the Lord. Kumbaga, parang may tatlong phases: seal judgments, trumpet judgments, at bowl judgments. According to them, yung church ay dadaan sa seal judgments at sa great tribulation, pero kukunin bago dumating yung Day of the Lord's wrath.

Bible student:

Ah! So parang mid-trib pero hindi exactly mid-trib?

Pastor Ronald:

Exactly! Pwedeng somewhere between 5-6 years na sa tribulation period. Yung key distinction nila is yung pagkakaiba ng "tribulation" at "wrath."

Bible student:

Ano pong biblical basis nila para dyan?

Pastor Ronald:

Good question! Let me give you their main verses:

Una, 1 Thessalonians 5:9 "For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Pangalawa, Matthew 24:29–31: after the tribulation, makikita yung signs sa kalangitan, tapos susunod yung gathering ng elect.

Pangatlo, Revelation 6:12-17 yung sixth seal, nasabi dun "the great day of their wrath has come." So ang argument nila, yung wrath ay nagsisimula doon, meaning yung rapture ay dapat mangyari bago yung sixth seal o pagkatapos.

Bible student:

So ano po yung problema?

Pastor Ronald:

Well, hindi siya necessarily "mali" in a sense na may biblical texts silang ginagamit. Pero may mga serious hermeneutical at theological issues ako dito as a postmillennialist at partial preterist.

Bible student:

Ano po yun, Pastor?

Pastor Ronald:

Let's break it down.

Una, yung whole framework nila ay based sa futurist premillennial interpretation. As a partial preterist, naniniwala ako na yung karamihan sa Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24) at sa Revelation ay natupad na during the destruction of Jerusalem noong AD 70. Yung "great tribulation" na sinasabi ni Jesus sa Matthew 24:21 is specifically about yung unprecedented suffering ng Jewish people during the Roman siege.

Bible student:

Wait, so ibig sabihin po, nag-happen na yung great tribulation?

Pastor Ronald:

Yes, bro!

As a postmillennialist, naniniwala ako na yung kingdom ni Cristo ay unti-unting lumalaki at nag-spread ngayon sa buong mundo through the gospel. Yung "millennium" ay figurative period na we're living in now.

Bible student:

So ibig sabihin po, walang pre-wrath rapture kasi ang rapture mismo ay sa very end na?

Pastor Ronald:

Tumpak! Ang dating ng New Testament is simple: Christ will return, the dead will rise, we who are alive will be caught up, judgment will happen, and the new creation will come.

Bible student:

Pastor Ronald:

Good catch! Tingnan mo yung context. Basahin mo yung 1 Thessalonians 1:10 "and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath."

Yung "wrath" dito is yung final eschatological judgment yung eternal condemnation.

Bible student:

Ah! So parang nag-confuse sila ng categories ng wrath?

Pastor Ronald:

Exactly! May distinction between:

  • Historical suffering and persecution (which Christ promised believers will face, John 16:33)
  • God's redemptive discipline (which purifies the church)
  • God's eternal wrath (which is only for the unrepentant)

Pastor Ronald:

Again, partial preterist lens, bro. The book of Revelation primarily addressing yung seven churches in Asia Minor in the first century.

Yung "Day of the Lord" language ay prophetic language na ginamit na rin sa Old Testament for historical judgments like sa Babylon, Egypt, etc. Yung wrath sa Revelation 6 is yung judgment sa Israel at sa pagan Rome for persecuting the church and rejecting the Messiah.

Bible student:

Grabe, Pastor! So parang yung whole pre-wrath framework ay based sa wrong interpretation ng timeline ng Revelation?

Pastor Ronald:

Well, I'd say it's based on a different hermeneutic futurism. And to be fair, maraming sincere, godly scholars ang futurist.

Bible student:

So ano po yung practical takeaway dito, Pastor?

Pastor Ronald:

Ayan! Important yan, Mark. Here's what I want you to remember:

First, humility. Yung eschatology is a secondary issue.

Second, focus on what's clear. Clear sa Scripture: Christ will return, there will be resurrection, there will be judgment, there will be new heavens and new earth. Yan ang importanteng truths.

Third, live faithfully now. Yung postmillennial hope ko is optimistic naniniwala ako na yung gospel ay mag-transform ng nations through faithful witness ng church. Yan ang dapat mag-motivate sa atin not escape mentality, but kingdom advancement mentality.

Bible student:

Pastor Ronald:

With grace, bro! Tanungin mo sila, engage respectfully. Sabihin mo, "I appreciate your study, but have you considered other interpretative frameworks like partial preterism?" Share your convictions without being defensive.

Bible student:

Salamat, Pastor! Ang laking tulong nito. So bottom line: yung pre-wrath view has biblical texts but may interpretative issues, especially kung partial preterist at postmillennialist ka?

Pastor Ronald:

Tumpak! And ultimately, yung eschatology natin should drive us toward faithfulness, hope, and love.

Bible student:

Amen, Pastor! Maraming salamat!

Pastor Ronald:

Walang anuman, bro! Keep studying, keep seeking truth, at lagi mo tandaan "Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face" (1 Corinthians 13:12). May mga bagay tayong hindi pa fully naiintindihan, and that's okay. Humility and love should mark our discussions.

Mark: Yes po! Tara Bible study ulit next week!

Pastor Ronald: Game! Soli Deo Gloria!

"The Third Temple Trap: Why Rebuilding It Is Actually an Insult to the Cross"?

Introduction

I watched this Facebook video recently, and honestly, it’s the same old story we always hear in certain Christian circles. Every time there’s news about the Temple Institute in Israel, red heifers arriving from Texas, or tensions at the Temple Mount, people get super excited. They say, "Look! The Third Temple is coming! Prophecy is being fulfilled!"

But real talk: this excitement is actually based on a very shaky foundation. If we look at history and study the Bible properly (exegesis), we will see that the obsession with rebuilding a physical temple is not just unnecessary, it’s actually absurd and dangerous to the Gospel.

The History and Origin of the Theory

Many people think this "Rebuild the Temple" doctrine has been around since the Apostles. Wrong.

For the first 1,800 years of Church history, almost no major theologian believed that God wanted the Jews to rebuild a physical temple to resume animal sacrifices. The early Church Fathers, the Reformers (like Luther and Calvin), and the Puritans all believed the "Temple" in the New Testament referred to Jesus or the Church.

The idea that there must be a physical Third Temple for the "Antichrist" to sit in is a modern invention. It started in the 1830s with a man named John Nelson Darby (the father of Dispensationalism). His ideas were popularized by the Scofield Reference Bible and later by sensational books like The Late Great Planet Earth and the Left Behind series. Basically, this is a 19th-century theory that got marketed very well, until many Christians today think it is the "only" way to read the Bible.

The Absurdity: A Historico-Grammatical Critique

If we use the historico-grammatical method (reading the Bible in its original context and language), this theory falls apart.

1. The Hebrew Exegesis: Daniel 9:27

The entire "Third Temple" timeline relies heavily on Daniel 9:27. Dispensationalists say "He" (the Antichrist) will make a peace treaty for seven years and then stop the sacrifices.

But in the Hebrew text, the grammar points to the Messiah, not an Antichrist.

"He shall confirm a covenant": The word used is often linked to God’s covenant. Who confirms the covenant? Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:17, Romans 15:8).

"He shall bring an end to sacrifice": Jesus did this by offering Himself once and for all (Hebrews 10:12). At the Cross, the veil was torn. The sacrificial system was spiritually finished by Jesus and physically destroyed in AD 70.

Conclusion: Daniel 9 isn't about a future Antichrist in a future temple; it was about Jesus fulfilling the Old Covenant in the 1st Century.

2. The Greek Exegesis: Naos vs. Hieron

People love to quote 2 Thessalonians 2:4, saying the Man of Lawlessness will sit in the "temple of God."

In Greek, there are two words for temple: Hieron (the physical complex of buildings) and Naos (the inner sanctuary/dwelling place). In the Gospels/Acts, when referring to the physical building, the word Hieron is often used. However, Paul almost exclusively uses the word Naos to refer to the Church, the body of believers.

"For we are the naos of the living God" (2 Cor 6:16).

"You are God’s naos" (1 Cor 3:16).

So, when Paul speaks of the "Temple of God" in the New Testament, he is usually talking about the Church. If the Man of Lawlessness sits there, it likely refers to a spiritual apostasy within the Church (which we have seen plenty of in history), not a guy sitting in a concrete building in Jerusalem.

3. The Partial Preterist Reality

We must understand that the prophecies about the "destruction" and the "abomination of desolation" (Matthew 24, Luke 21) were fulfilled in AD 70. Jesus said, "This generation will not pass away until all these things take place" (Matt 24:34). The word genea (generation) meant the people living then.

The Roman armies led by Titus surrounded Jerusalem, destroyed the Second Temple, and ended the Jewish age. That was the judgment. God wiped the slate clean to establish the New Covenant fully. Why would He want us to go back to the shadows of the Old Covenant?

The Theological Absurdity

From a New Covenant Theology perspective, the idea of rebuilding the temple is actually blasphemous. The Book of Hebrews makes it clear: The Old Covenant is obsolete (Hebrews 8:13). Jesus is the final Lamb. If you build a temple to slaughter goats and bulls again, you are basically telling God, "Jesus' blood was not enough; we need more animal blood." That is a total insult to the Cross!

God destroyed the physical temple to show that the location of worship has shifted. As Jesus told the Samaritan woman, we worship in Spirit and Truth, not on this mountain or in Jerusalem (John 4:21).

Conclusion

We need to stop obsessing over bricks and mortar in the Middle East. That is "Old Covenant" thinking. As Postmillennialists, we believe the Kingdom of God is advancing now through the preaching of the Gospel, not waiting for a disaster or a new building. The True Temple is being built right now; it’s us, the Church, growing worldwide (Ephesians 2:21).

Let’s stop looking for a Third Temple of stone and start building the Spiritual Temple by spreading the Gospel and discipling the nations. That one is the real deal.

Answering Toughest Objections Against "Postmillennialism"

Victory in History

Let’s dive deep into the Word using historico-grammatical hermeneutics, pero explain natin sa paraang maiintindihan kahit ng bata.

The Big Illustration: "The Messy Room"

Imagine may isang batang nagngangalang Adam.

May power ako at cleaning tools (The Gospel & Holy Spirit). Tutulungan kita.

He cleans the mess before He wraps up history. The Gospel is powerful enough to fix the world.

Q&A: Answering the Toughest Objections

Q1: "Pastor, sabi sa 2 Timothy 3:1, 'in the last days perilous times will come.'

The Short Answer:

The Exegesis (Hermeneutics):

Tingnan natin ang Greek. Ang phrase na "Last Days" (eschatais hemerais) sa New Testament ay madalas tumutukoy sa "Last Days of the Old Covenant Age," hindi last days ng planet Earth.

Sa Hebrews 1:2, sabi ng author: "Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son." Nagsalita na ang Anak noon. So, noong 1st Century pa lang, "last days" na ng Jewish Age.

Context Clue: Sa verse 5 ng 2 Timothy 3, sabi ni Paul kay Timothy: "from such people turn away!"

Today, we are in the era of the expanding Kingdom (Isaiah 9:7).

"The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will accomplish this." Isaiah 9:7 (CSB)

Q2: "Pero paano yung Great Tribulation sa Matthew 24? Di ba darating pa lang 'yun?"

The Short Answer:

Tapos na 'yan. The Great Tribulation was the judgment on Apostate Israel noong AD 70.

The Exegesis:

Balikan natin ang "Time Indicator" ni Jesus.

Matthew 24:34: "Assuredly, I say to you, this generation (genea haute) will by no means pass away till all these things take place."

At nangyari nga! Within 40 years (isang generation), winasak ng Roman armies ang Jerusalem. It was the "greatest tribulation" for the Jewish nation na nag-reject sa Messiah.

Comparison:

We are now in the time of the Great Commission, not the Great Tribulation.

Siya ang 'god of this world' (2 Cor 4:4) di ba?"

The Short Answer:

Satan is a defeated foe.

The Exegesis:

Yes, tinawag siyang "god of this age" (aion), pero tingnan mo ang sinabi ni Jesus pagkatapos ng resurrection Niya:

Matthew 28:18: "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth."

Ilang authority? ALL.

1 Corinthians 15:25: "For He [Jesus] must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet."

Note the verb tense: He is reigning now (present active), at unti-unting pinapatumba ang mga kaaway (process).

The Big Advantage: Postmillennialism vs. SDA Eschatology

FeatureSDA Eschatology (Great Controversy Theme)Postmillennialism (Victorious Gospel)
View of HistoryPessimistic.
EvangelismFear-based. "Sumunod ka kasi malapit na ang Sunday Law at Time of Trouble."Faith-based. "Sumunod ka kay Christ kasi Siya ang Hari at binabago Niya ang mundo through love and justice."
CultureIsolationist. "Be the salt and light."
The EndDefeat.
Pastoral Closing Challenge

Maging matapang tayo. Magtrabaho tayo. Let’s build families, businesses, and communities that honor God because we know that our labor is not in vain (1 Cor 15:58).

The world is not ending anytime soon; it is being mended.
