INVESTIGATING ADVENTISM Q&A: Ellen G. White and the Health Reform Deception—Did She Practice What She Preached?

INTRODUCTION

Ellen G. White (1827–1915) is revered by Seventh-day Adventists as a prophetess whose visions carry divine authority. Among her most prominent teachings was the "Health Reform" a sweeping dietary code that she claimed God revealed to her beginning in 1863. She insisted that eating meat (especially oysters), butter, and eggs was sinful, spiritually dangerous, and disqualifying for Christian ministry.

This document examines the historical record against her prophetic claims using the Q (Question) → A (SDA Adventist Defense) → R (Biblical Rebuttal) catechism format. Each exchange challenges whether Ellen White meets the biblical standard for a true prophet.

HISTORICAL RECORD: ELLEN WHITE'S MEAT-EATING TIMELINE

The following documented dates reveal the gap between Ellen White's prophetic pronouncements and her personal conduct:

Q&A EXAMINATION

Q1. THE 1863 VISION: WAS IT A GENUINE PROPHETIC REVELATION?

Ellen White claimed that in June 1863, God revealed to her that eating meat was harmful and spiritually dangerous. She stated she stopped eating meat immediately. Is this claim credible?

SDA DEFENSE:

Yes. Ellen White received a genuine vision from God about diet and health in 1863. She faithfully shared this light with the church and personally abstained from meat. Her life demonstrated her commitment to this prophetic counsel.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

The historical record tells a completely different story. Despite claiming to stop eating meat in 1863, documented evidence shows Ellen White continued eating venison, chicken, duck, salmon, beef broth, herring, and oysters for decades afterward at least until 1894. By her own admission in 1876, she was eating salmon regularly ("We have had some salmon a few times"), yet in that same era she had already publicly condemned others for eating meat. A true prophet does not privately live contrary to the very "divine light" she publicly proclaims.

“But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.” Deuteronomy 18:20

Q2. HEALTH REFORM AS PART OF THE THIRD ANGEL'S MESSAGE BIBLICAL OR ADDED?

Ellen White taught in 1865 that the Health Reform is "a part of the Third Angel's Message" (Revelation 14), as closely connected as "the arm is to the body." Is there a biblical basis for this claim?

SDA DEFENSE:

Ellen White received inspired insight that Health Reform is inseparably connected to end-time truth. The Third Angel's Message is a broad call to holiness that encompasses the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

Revelation 14:9-12 describes the Third Angel's Message as a warning against worshipping the Beast and receiving his mark it says nothing whatsoever about meat-eating, diet, or health reform. By adding Health Reform to this passage, Ellen White violated the explicit command of Revelation 22:18: "If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll." This is not interpretive nuance it is textual addition to prophetic Scripture. No Adventist can locate Health Reform in Revelation 14 because it is simply not there.

“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.” Revelation 22:18

Q3. THE CONDEMNATION OF MEAT-EATERS WERE THESE JUDGMENTS JUST?

In 1868, Ellen White declared that the prayers of parents who serve butter, eggs, and meat to their children cannot ascend to heaven. In 1870, she said that those who occasionally eat turkey have "a depraved taste." In 1899, she said meat-eaters cannot be representatives of truth. Were these judgments biblically justified?

SDA DEFENSE:

Ellen White was calling the church to a higher standard of holiness. Her statements reflected prophetic concern for those who ignored the light God had given regarding diet. She was not being legalistic but responding to divine instruction.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

These statements are morally incoherent because Ellen White herself was eating the same meats she condemned in others. In 1868, she condemned those who served meat yet by 1871 she and James were eating venison daily in Texas. In 1880, she condemned a youth for eating oysters yet in 1882 her own shopping list requested "some cans of good oysters." Scripture explicitly contradicts her: "The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does" (Romans 14:3). Furthermore, Paul declares in Romans 14:6 that both the meat-eater and the vegetarian honor the Lord.

“The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17

Q4. THE OYSTER INCIDENT OF 1891: WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?

Fannie Bolton, Ellen White's personal secretary, documented that in 1891 she witnessed Elder G. B. Starr find Ellen White in a restaurant eating large raw oysters with vinegar, pepper, and salt the same food she had publicly condemned. Is this account credible?

SDA DEFENSE:

G. B. Starr categorically denied this ever happened, calling it "the most laughable, impossible nonsense" he had ever read. Ellen White's son, W. C. White, also disputed the oyster story. Fannie Bolton was an unreliable witness.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

There are critical problems with the SDA denial. First, G. B. Starr's denial was itself caught in a demonstrable lie: he claimed to have never seen Ellen White eat meat at all yet W. C. White's own letter confirmed the beefsteak incident, directly contradicting Starr. A witness who lies about one incident cannot be trusted to tell the truth about another. Second, neither Ellen White nor her attendant Sara McEnterfer both of whom were present ever personally denied the oyster account. Third, Ellen White's own 1882 shopping list requests "some cans of good oysters," confirming she considered oysters an acceptable food for her household. The silence of the accused is telling.

“A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will perish.” Proverbs 19:9

Q5. WHY DID ELLEN WHITE FINALLY STOP EATING MEAT IN 1894?

Ellen White stated that she fully abandoned meat at the Brighton camp meeting in 1894 31 years after her 1863 "divine health vision." What actually prompted this change?

SDA DEFENSE:

Ellen White continued her spiritual journey and received further light on this subject. By 1894 she made a full and complete commitment to vegetarianism, which demonstrated her growth in obedience to the prophetic counsel she herself had given.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

Ellen White's own words are devastating to this defense. In her own testimony she wrote that a Catholic woman knelt before her and moved her conscience about the killing of animals this is human encounter, not a divine vision, finally persuaded her to stop eating meat. This means that for 31 years after her "divine vision," she continued eating meat, not because of divine permission, but because of personal preference and stopped only because of a Catholic woman's moral appeal. This is not prophetic obedience; it is a long pattern of hypocrisy finally interrupted by social conviction. By her own 1899 standard, she herself was "not qualified to represent truth" for those 31 years.

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” — James 1:22

Q6. THE 1909 CLAIM: WAS ELLEN WHITE A FAITHFUL HEALTH REFORMER?

In 1909, Ellen White stated: "I have been a faithful advocate of health reform." Is this claim accurate?

SDA DEFENSE:

Yes. Ellen White's overall life and ministry demonstrated a consistent commitment to health reform principles. Her writings have guided the SDA church's impressive health legacy, including Adventist hospitals and health institutions worldwide.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

By her own definition, this claim is false. Ellen White defined a "faithful" health reformer as one who does not eat meat. Yet her own household records, personal letters, and the testimony of multiple witnesses confirm that she ate meat, oysters, salmon, herring, venison, chicken, beef broth, and beefsteak for the majority of her life including after her divine visions commanded otherwise. In 1888, she wrote: "I am not of that class who preach one thing and practice another" (Selected Messages, Book 2, p. 302). This statement, written while she was actively eating meat and oysters, is itself an act of deception. Her 1909 claim compounds the dishonesty.

“You, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?” Romans 2:21

Q7. DANIEL'S VEGETARIANISM DID ELLEN WHITE CORRECTLY INTERPRET SCRIPTURE?

Ellen White taught that Daniel and his companions permanently refused all meat as a matter of principled vegetarianism. Is this a correct reading of Daniel's account?

SDA DEFENSE:

Daniel 1 shows that Daniel and his friends refused the king's food, including meat and wine, as an act of consecration to God. This provides the biblical basis for the SDA health reform standard avoiding meat as an act of spiritual devotion.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

Ellen White's interpretation distorts the text. Daniel's refusal in Daniel 1 was specifically about food that had been offered to Babylonian idols it was a matter of ritual purity and covenant faithfulness, not a blanket rejection of all meat. Crucially, Daniel 10:2-3 explicitly shows Daniel eating meat and drinking wine after the test of Daniel 1: "I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips" the phrase "no meat or wine" only makes sense as a temporary fast if meat and wine were normally part of his diet. Furthermore, all faithful Israelites including Daniel were covenantally required to eat the Passover lamb (Exodus 12). Ellen White's claim that Daniel permanently abstained from meat is simply unbiblical.

“In those days I, Daniel, had been mourning for three full weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips.” Daniel 10:2-3

Q8. THE NEW TESTAMENT ON FOOD LAWS: DOES THE BIBLE SUPPORT ELLEN WHITE'S DIETARY CODE?

Does the New Testament support Ellen White's teaching that Christians are spiritually endangered by eating meat, that meat-eaters cannot represent God's truth, and that those awaiting the Lord's return will become vegetarians?

SDA DEFENSE:

The New Testament calls Christians to holiness of the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit. Paul's counsel to offer our bodies as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1) supports a disciplined, health-conscious lifestyle that aligns with Ellen White's vision of whole-person wellness.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

The New Testament is unambiguous and directly contradicts every key claim of Ellen White's Health Reform. First, Mark 7:19 records Jesus declaring all foods clean. Second, Romans 14:14 states: "I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself." Third, 1 Corinthians 10:25 commands: "Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience." Fourth, Romans 14:6 affirms that the person who eats meat does so to honor the Lord and gives thanks. Fifth, 1 Timothy 4:1-3 specifically warns that commanding people to abstain from certain foods is a doctrine of demons. Ellen White's Health Reform is not the Third Angel's Message it is precisely the kind of teaching Paul warns against.

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons... They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving.” 1 Timothy 4:1, 3

Q9. THE TEST OF A TRUE PROPHET: DOES ELLEN WHITE PASS?

Deuteronomy 18:20-22 provides the biblical test for a true prophet: their words must come true, and they must speak only what God commands. Does Ellen White pass this test regarding the Health Reform?

SDA DEFENSE:

Ellen White's prophetic ministry must be evaluated holistically. Her health insights were ahead of her time modern medical research has validated many of her dietary counsels. Her genuine prophetic gift should not be dismissed on the basis of her personal dietary struggles, as even biblical prophets were imperfect.

BIBLICAL REBUTTAL:

There are two distinct categories here that must not be confused: (1) moral failures in conduct, and (2) false prophetic claims. All biblical prophets sinned in conduct. But Ellen White's problem is not merely personal inconsistency it is that she made claims in God's name that are directly contradicted by Scripture, and made predictions that did not come true. She prophesied that those awaiting Christ's return would abandon meat-eating after two thousand years of church history, virtually no Christian tradition practices this. She declared that meat-eaters would "go out from the people of God" they have not. She added Health Reform to Revelation 14 it is not there. A prophet whose "thus saith the Lord" contradicts the Lord's own written Word is not imperfect she is false.

“If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.” Deuteronomy 18:22

CONCLUSION

Ellen G. White failed the biblical standard for a true prophet in the domain of her Health Reform teaching. The evidence shows:

1. She ate meat, oysters, venison, chicken, duck, salmon, herring, and beef broth for decades after her own 1863 "divine vision" prohibited these foods.

2. She publicly condemned others for eating the same foods she privately consumed, calling them spiritually disqualified and separated from God.

3. She added the Health Reform to Revelation 14 (the Third Angel's Message) a direct violation of Revelation 22:18.

4. Her ultimate reason for stopping meat in 1894 was not a divine vision but the conviction of a Catholic woman 31 years after her "prophetic" food vision.

5. She falsely claimed in 1909 to have been "a faithful advocate of health reform" directly contradicted by her own letters and household records.

6. Her teachings have no biblical foundation: the New Testament explicitly permits eating all foods sold in the market (1 Cor. 10:25), declares no food unclean (Rom. 14:14), and affirms that both meat-eaters and vegetarians honor God (Rom. 14:6).

Verdict: Ellen G. White does not meet the biblical criteria for a true prophet (Deut. 18:20–22). Salvation is by faith in Christ alone, not by dietary compliance with the visions of Ellen White. The kingdom of God is not about eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17).

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” — Romans 14:17

"Food will not bring us close to God. We are not worse off if we don’t eat, and we are not better if we do eat."1 Corinthians 8:8

“Never Say I Am Saved?” — Bible vs. Ellen G. White Part 1

Sola Scriptura Daw? Pero Bakit Tinanggihan ang Sulat ni Moses? The 1905 heresy trial ni Albion F. Ballenger

Sa dami ng quotes niya tungkol sa “The Bible, and the Bible alone, is our rule of faith,” parang malinaw na ang Biblia ang final authority.

Ballenger vs. The System

“When God testifies of what is truth, that truth stands forever. No after suppositions, contrary to the light God has given me, should be entertained.”

At kung may conflict, Scripture must win.

Balikan natin ‘yan.

Ang “Amalgamation” Controversy

Noong 1864, isinulat ni Ellen White sa Spiritual Gifts Vol. 3 na isa raw sa mga kasalanang nagdulot ng Baha ay ang “amalgamation of man and beast.” Sabi pa niya, “it defaced the image of God” at nagdulot ng “confusion everywhere.”

 “Certain Races of Men”

Sinulat ni Ellen White na makikita raw ang resulta ng amalgamation “in certain races of men.”

Anong mga lahi ‘yun? Hindi niya sinabi. Pero sinabi ng mga unang SDA leaders.

Sina B.F. Snook at W.H.

Pahinga muna. Lakasan mo loob mo.

The Great Delete

The Herod Blunder

Mali ‘yun. Magkaibang Herod ‘yun.

Ayun, inayos niya ‘to sa Spirit of Prophecy Vol. 3 (1878).
So much for “God showed me in vision.”

Sabi niya pa nga, “the people are being deceived about the inspiration for what I write.”

So ngayon, may “propeta” tayo na may ghostwriters tapos ‘yung edits daw ay “approved by angels”?
Hindi ‘yan prophecy. ‘Yan ay publishing.

The 1883 Editing Resolution

Na si Ellen ay “inspired in thought, not in words.”

Pero teka lang may catch.
Noong 1905, sinabi naman ni Ellen White:
“The Lord has bidden me write. I have not been instructed to change that which I have sent out.”

So alin ba talaga?

Revisions and Contradictions

  • Original: “The church of Christ... has grown feeble and inefficient through selfishness.”

  • Revised: “The church of Christ, enfeebled and defective as it may be, is the only object on earth on which He bestows His supreme regard.”

  • Original: “The pope has arrogated the very titles of Deity.”

  • Revised: “The pope has been given the very titles of Deity.”

Kita mo ‘yung tono?
Mas soft, mas maayos pakinggan, at syempre mas hindi nakaka-offend.

Behind the Curtain

Prescott:

“If we correct it here and correct it there, how are we going to stand with it in the other places?”

Exactly.

What the Evidence Shows

Investigating Ellen G. White #12: Prophetess at War

The Adventist Claim and Our Response

If you’ve been around Adventist circles long enough, alam mo na agad ang linya: “Ellen G. White was a prophet, chosen by God to lead the remnant church in the last days.” Laging may kasunod pa. “Her writings are inspired, just like the Bible.”

She wasn’t merely a “humble messenger”; she was also a woman constantly fighting not only her critics, but even the very truths she claimed to defend.

Let’s go back a bit. The Adventist movement didn’t start with Ellen. It began with William Miller, a Baptist preacher who predicted Jesus would return sometime between 1843–1844. His followers, later called “Millerites,” spread across America, holding revival meetings and warning people about “the coming of Christ.”

But not everyone was convinced. In fact, Protestants had four solid reasons to reject Miller’s movement:

  1. Jesus Himself said no one would know the day or hour of His return (Matt. 25:13).

  2. Time-setting was viewed as a device of the devil.

  3. Many prophecies hadn’t been fulfilled yet (e.g., Matt. 24:14).

  4. Miller violated sound rules of biblical interpretation in his so-called “15 Proofs.” [2]

And they were right. When October 22, 1844, passed with no “Second Coming,” history called it The Great Disappointment.

The Birth of a Prophetess

Enter Ellen Harmon, a young woman from Maine, frail, sickly, and emotionally fragile. After the Great Disappointment, she claimed to have received visions “from God,” explaining that the event didn’t fail; it was just misunderstood.

According to her, Christ did enter a new phase of His heavenly ministry in the Most Holy Place on that date. That single “revelation” gave birth to what we now know as Seventh-day Adventism.

But here’s the twist: several letters and testimonies show that even in her own day, church leaders questioned the nature and origin of her visions. One letter from Chesnut Street United Methodist Church (June 3, 1988) exposed how Ellen’s early “trances” resembled the manifestations common among spiritualists and mesmerists in the 19th century. [1]

Ellen White’s “Divine” Temper

In Early Writings, she claimed that her critics were “agents of Satan.” [3] Sa isa pang pahina, sinabi niya na ang mga nagdududa sa kanya ay “under the influence of demonic spirits.” [4]

Now, pause tayo rito. That’s not prophetic humility that’s cultic control. Baliktad. Lahat ng kumalaban, “tinamaan ng demonyo.”

Hindi rin ito isolated. Sa Testimonies, Vol. 4, sinabi niya: “Those who oppose the testimonies are rebelling against God Himself.” [6] That’s a dangerous claim because if you question her, you’re supposedly questioning God.

Sounds familiar? That’s exactly how modern cults operate.

Prophetess at War

Ellen White didn’t just write; she fought. Hard. Against anyone who dared to disagree. In Early Writings (p. 274), she declared that the Lord showed her how “some were in rebellion against the light” because they resisted her writings. [7] Later, she even described visions of angels withdrawing from dissenters, leaving them to Satan’s power. [8]

Is this the spirit of Christ or the spirit of fear and manipulation?

In Spirit of Prophecy, Vol. 4, she went further, saying that those who reject her visions are “grieving the Holy Spirit.” [9] Again, notice the shift from “rejecting Ellen” to “rejecting God.” That’s not prophecy; that’s self-preservation.

The Contradiction in Revelation 19 and 20

Ellen White’s confusion extended even to her eschatology. She claimed in one vision that the “saints will spend a thousand years in heaven” and that “Satan will reign on earth” during that period. [10]

Christ’s return, judgment, and the millennium are all part of one redemptive event, hindi hiwa-hiwalay na cosmic episodes.

At sa totoo lang, this entire “heavenly millennium” idea wasn’t even unique. It mirrored ideas already circulating in the 19th-century visionary movement, a blend of Millerite disappointment and spiritualist mysticism. Ellen White was simply repackaging the culture’s religious imagination into something that sounded “prophetic.”

Her War Against the World

She also went to war with the world itself.

In Youth Instructor (July 12, 1904), she warned young people that “Satan controls the amusements of the world.” [11] On one level, okay lang ‘yan may wisdom naman. Pero sa kanya, halos lahat ng earthly joy ay “sinful” even music, laughter, and recreation.

That’s legalism in prophetic clothes.

She was not preaching Christ crucified — she was preaching Adventism glorified.

The Great Irony

Ang mismong ideya ng “investigative judgment,” for example, ay parang version ng purgatory — a heavenly process to determine who’s worthy of salvation. And her authoritarian leadership style resembled the very papal structure she condemned.

According to church historians, the title “pope” originally came from the Latin papa (father) and was used for various bishops during the 2nd–4th centuries. It didn’t refer to a universal head until much later. The first medieval pope was Gregory the Great (590–604), but he actually rejected the title. His successor, Sabinian (606 AD), embraced it, solidifying the papal role. [16]

So, while Ellen White accused Rome of inventing doctrines, she herself invented one that paralleled their system a moral irony only history could laugh at.

Even Her Own Scholars Questioned Her

By the late 20th century, even Adventist scholars started re-evaluating Ellen White’s legacy. One of the most respected, Dr. Samuele Bacchiocchi, admitted through his studies that Sunday observance had strong apostolic roots, not pagan origin. [17]

Many Adventists accepted his findings. Pero syempre, the ultra-conservatives went berserk. They accused him of being “a Jesuit infiltrator.” (Yes, seriously.) Yet none of them ever produced evidence against him or refuted his data.

So, sino talaga ang “deceiver” dito, the one who exposed error, or the prophetess who built an empire on visions no one could verify?

Ellen White’s Contradictions Multiply

Even within her own writings, contradictions piled up. In Testimonies, Vol. 9, she both condemned the world for being “too focused on social reform” and yet urged her church to engage in “practical Christianity” by helping the poor. [18]

Parang gusto niyang maging prophetess of balance, pero nauwi sa prophetess of confusion.

Sa Early Writings (p. 32), she once saw a vision of a “path to heaven” that only those who followed her light could safely walk on. [14] Pero later in Daniel and the Revelation (Uriah Smith, p. 159), her associate painted a different prophetic map. [15] So which is it? God’s revelation or Ellen’s revision?

A Pastoral Appeal to Seek the True Christ

Mga kapatid, the real issue here isn’t Ellen White’s personality; it’s the authority she claimed. If her writings are placed beside Scripture, and we see confusion, fear, and self-defense instead of the Gospel of grace, then we must do what Paul did with Peter: rebuke falsehood in love (Gal. 2:11–14).

Jesus warned, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” (Matt. 7:15)

Ellen White may have worn the robe of a prophet, but her teachings bear the marks of bondage, not freedom. She fought the critics, the churches, and even her own people, yet she never fought her own pride.

And if the so-called “Spirit of Prophecy” produces division, deception, and fear, then that spirit is not from the Christ who said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28)

Mga kaibigan, if you are still inside Adventism and you’re feeling the weight of trying to live up to “the prophet’s light,” remember this: Jesus is the true Light (John 8:12). You don’t need a 19th-century prophetess to interpret Him for you.

You just need the Word of God — clear, sufficient, and finished.

Investigating Ellen G. White #10: “The Great Controversy Myth” [Taglish)

Intro: Ang Akala Nating “Prophetic Masterpiece”

Kung lumaki ka sa Adventist church, malamang alam na alam mo ang librong The Great Controversy. Ito ‘yung librong sinasabing “divine revelation” ni Ellen G. White — ang kumpletong kwento ng cosmic war between Christ and Satan, mula Eden hanggang sa end of time. Millions of copies have been printed and distributed worldwide, proudly claiming to warn the world of what’s to come.

Let’s investigate.

The “Vision” at Lovett’s Grove — or Just Convenient Timing?

Over time, isinulat daw niya ito hanggang naging Spiritual Gifts (vol. 1), later Spirit of Prophecy (vol. 4), at finally, noong 1888 — The Great Controversy na.

Ang claim niya?

“While writing the manuscript of The Great Controversy, I was often conscious of the presence of the angels of God.”

May Nauna Nang “Great Controversy” Book?!

Surprise! Noong 1858 din—oo, same year, may isang first-day Adventist author named H.L. Hastings na nagsulat ng The Great Controversy Between God and Man: Its Origin, Progress, and Termination.

At guess what — just four days after Ellen White’s so-called “vision,” lumabas ang review ng librong ito sa Review and Herald magazine ni James White. Para mailabas iyon, ibig sabihin nabasa na nila ni Ellen ang libro before her vision ever happened.

Coincidence? Or convenient timing?

“We could wish the author had dwelt more on the law that reposes in that ark…”

Exactly what the review “wished” for.

So parang ganito: nabasa nila ‘yung unang Great Controversy, nag-comment na may kulang, tapos biglang “nagka-vision” si Ellen White na puno ng eksaktong mga “kulang” daw.

Recycled Doctrines, Repackaged as Revelation

Ayon sa SDA historian na si Walter Rea, halos lahat ng doctrines sa Great Controversy — gaya ng “Mark of the Beast = Sunday worship,” “Image to the Beast = USA,” at iba pa — ay hindi galing sa Lovett’s Grove vision. Galing ‘yan kina Joseph Bates, J.N. Andrews, at Uriah Smith bago pa man maisulat ang libro.

In fact, Life Incidents ni James White (1868) at The Three Messages of Revelation ni J.N.

Behind the Scenes: The 1919 SDA Leaders’ Admission

Fast forward to 1919. During a private SDA conference, church leaders openly admitted that Ellen White didn’t even write many of the historical sections.

W.W. Prescott, one of her editors, said:

“If they did not find in her writings anything on certain chapters… they took other books, like Uriah Smith’s Daniel and Revelation, and used portions of them.”

At si A.G. Daniells, General Conference President mismo, umamin na:

“We could never claim inspiration in the whole thought and make-up of the book…”

Academic Confirmation: Dr. Don McAdams’ Research

Decades later, SDA scholar Dr. Don McAdams (Spectrum, 1980) examined Ellen White’s handwritten manuscript for The Great Controversy.

Ang conclusion niya:

“I have found no historical fact in her text that is not in their text [the historians she copied from].”

Ibig sabihin, kahit historical details ay hindi kanya — copy-paste lang from other historians, including their errors.

So What Are We Left With?

Kung tatanggalin mo lahat ng borrowed paragraphs, recycled ideas, and SDA add-ons — ano pa nga ba ang matitira sa Great Controversy?

Hindi original, hindi inspired, at hindi prophetic. It’s simply a 19th-century Adventist remix of older religious literature — na ginamitan ng “vision” claim para maging authoritative.

The Real Great Controversy

Here’s the thing: The real “Great Controversy” isn’t between Ellen White and Rome. It’s between truth and deception.

The battle today isn’t about Sunday laws or papal conspiracies — it’s about who we trust for truth. The Bible alone, or a claimed prophet whose words were patched together by editors and borrowed from other authors?

Jesus said,

“Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

At doon dapat umiikot ang ating pananampalataya. Hindi sa mga vision claims ng 19th century, kundi sa inspired Word of God na tunay na “breathed out by God” (2 Tim. 3:16).

Conclusion: From Fiction to Faithfulness

Many of us once held The Great Controversy like it was holy writ. Pero ngayon, as we examine its origins, one thing becomes clear — this book tells us more about Ellen White’s imagination than about God’s revelation.

The good news? We don’t need a “prophet” to know God’s plan. The Bible itself — complete, sufficient, and living — already reveals the true story of redemption: From creation to Christ, from cross to kingdom.

Now that’s the real Great Controversy worth believing in.

Investigating Ellen G. White #9: “The Vanishing Books of Ellen White” [Taglish]

Intro Hook

An Appeal to Youth – A Short-Lived Book

Noong 1864, lumabas ang An Appeal to Youth. Sounds good, di ba? Pero may nakaka-shock na linya sa libro:

“The Lord loves those little children who try to do right… But wicked children God does not love… God loves honest-hearted, truthful children, but cannot love those who are dishonest.”¹

The Apocrypha Influence

“I saw that the Apocrypha was the hidden book, and that the wise of these last days should understand it”
?²

Tunog kopya ng Book of Jasher.

Sketches from the Life of Paul – Pulled Out for Plagiarism

Pinakamatindi siguro ang nangyari noong 1883, nang lumabas ang librong Sketches from the Life of Paul.

“Written with special help from the Spirit of God.”³

Pero teka lang—ilang taon matapos ilabas, may Adventist doctor (Dr. Stewart) na gumawa ng pamphlet na nag-compare side by side ang book ni Ellen White at yung classic work nina Conybeare at Howson, Life and Epistles of the Apostle Paul (1855). Resulta? Page after page, word for word, kopya.³

Walang credit. Walang acknowledgement. Walang quotation marks.

SDA General Conference Confession

Daniells noong 1919 conference:

“…We could never claim inspiration in the whole thought and make up of the book… Credits were not given to the proper authorities, and some of that crept into The Great Controversy… We read word for word, page after page, and no quotations, no credit… I supposed it was Sister White’s own work! … I saw the manifestation of the human in these writings.”⁴

Kung yung Life of Paul plagiarized, paano pa yung Great Controversy at iba pa niyang books?

The Walter Rea and Veltman Bombshells

Fast forward to the 1980s.

“It strikes at the heart of her honesty, her integrity, and therefore her trustworthiness.”⁶

The Cover-Up

Alam mo ba na yung transcript ng 1919 conference (kung saan openly kinuwestyon ang plagiarism ni Ellen White) ay tinago ng General Conference ng 55 years?⁴ Only in 1974 ito na-“discover” sa vault. Samantalang all that time, patuloy na pinapalabas sa mga members na “purely inspired” ang writings ni Ellen White.

Kung walang tinatago, bakit kailangan ng cover-up?

Reflection

Sabi ni Jesus: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

So ang tanong: saan mo itataya ang kaluluwa mo—sa mga aklat na nawala at binawi dahil plagiarized, o sa eternal Word of God that stands forever?

Investigating Ellen G. White #8: Health Reform or Health Myth? [Taglish]

Intro Hook

The Sudden Shift: From Pork Lover to Health Prophet

Biglang declared na, “Never should one morsel of swine’s flesh be placed upon your table.”⁴ Anong nangyari? Vision ba? Direct word from God ba?

Her First Health Book: An Appeal to Mothers

Noong 1864, pinalabas ni Ellen White ang kanyang unang health book: An Appeal to Mothers.

Investigating Ellen G. White #7: Civil War Prophetess?

Dress Length o Prophetic Voice?

Investigating Ellen G. White #4: The Israel Dammon Trial: Ellen White’s “Supernatural Story” vs. Courtroom Reality (Taglish)

Fanatic Frenzy After the Great Disappointment

Eyewitness Testimonies: Chaos in the Name of God?

“They would at times all be talking at once, hallooing at the top of their voices... A woman on the floor lay on her back with a pillow under her head; she would occasionally arouse up and tell a vision... By spells it was the most noisy assembly I ever attended.”[3]

“Of all the places I ever was in, I never saw such a confusion, not even in a drunken frolic.”[4]

At alam mo kung sino yung “Imitation of Christ”? Si Ellen Harmon mismo.[6]

Ellen White’s Story: Supernatural vs. Sheriff’s Report

After 40 minutes, miracle-style, binuhat na lang siya “as easily as a child.”[7]

Wow. Kung movie, parang Avengers scene! Pero teka—ano ba sabi ng mismong Sheriff Joseph Moulton under oath?

“I went to the prisoner and took him by the hand... A number of women jumped on to him—he clung to them, and they to him. So great was the resistance, that I with three assistants, could not get him out... After more help arrived we overpowered them and got him out in custody.” [8]

So alin ang totoo? Supernatural miracle or simpleng physical obstruction? At kung may “glory of God” talaga, bakit walang ni isa sa 30 witnesses na nag-testify in support of Ellen White’s version?

Trial Verdict: Released or Jailed?

Ayon kay Ellen White, acquitted daw si Dammon at nagkaroon pa ng opportunity to share his faith at kumanta ng hymn. [9]

So alin na naman ang totoo? Released, o jailed?

Fanatic Practices: Crawling, Barking, Holy Kissing

Hindi niya binanggit na may mga taong nag-creep sa sahig on hands and knees “as a mark of humility.” [11]

Nakakatawa? Nakakahiya? O nakakatakot? Is this really how the Spirit of God works—through crawling, barking, and shouting?

Interestingly, by 1894, si Ellen White mismo nagsulat na:

“Wild methods and strange freaks and confusion are not authorized by the God of order.” [12]

The Disappearing Dammon Story

Bakit kaya? Maybe dahil by that time, si Dammon mismo had publicly rejected Ellen White at ang “shut door” visions niya.[13]

How convenient na mawala ang kwento once the “hero” of her miracle turned against her.

Conclusion: A Pattern of Contradictions

Kung yung arrest and trial ni Israel Dammon ay ganito ka-contradictory, paano pa yung ibang supernatural claims ni Ellen White—yung tipong she held up a 40-pound Bible, or stopped breathing for hours?

Kahit si SDA General Conference President A.G. Daniels (1919) nagtanong: “How much of that is genuine, and how much has crawled into the story?” [14]

Baka nga mas tama si Israel Dammon, na after seeing her visions firsthand, walked away and never looked back.
