Investigating Ellen G. White #9: “The Vanishing Books of Ellen White” [Taglish]

Intro Hook

Alam mo ba na hindi lahat ng books ni Ellen White na-publish ay nagtagal? May mga libro siyang parang “na-rapture” bigla mula sa SDA shelves—hindi dahil sold out, kundi dahil sobrang controversial o nahuli sa plagiarism. Kung inspired talaga ito ng Diyos, bakit kailangan itago, i-pull out, at i-deny na parang walang nangyari?

An Appeal to Youth – A Short-Lived Book

Noong 1864, lumabas ang An Appeal to Youth. Dito, ginamit ni Ellen White ang mga letters niya sa kanyang mga anak para turuan daw ang mga kabataan. Sounds good, di ba? Pero may nakaka-shock na linya sa libro:

“The Lord loves those little children who try to do right… But wicked children God does not love… God loves honest-hearted, truthful children, but cannot love those who are dishonest.”¹

Mga kapatid, tanong lang: consistent ba ito sa John 3:16, na sinasabi “God so loved the world”—hindi lang ang “honest children”? Kaya siguro hindi kataka-taka na ang librong ito ay quietly nawala sa circulation. Hindi ba’t kung ito ay tunay na revelation mula sa Diyos, dapat timeless at unshakable ang mensahe?

The Apocrypha Influence

Pero hindi lang dito natigil ang issue. Alam mo ba na noong 1850, sa isang vision, sinabi ni Ellen White:

“I saw that the Apocrypha was the hidden book, and that the wise of these last days should understand it”?²

Kaya pala makikita mo, sa Early Writings niya, parang hango ang ilang descriptions mula sa Esdras (isang apocryphal book). 

Ang serpent na “shining gold” sa Garden of Eden? Halos kapareho ng description sa John Milton’s Paradise Lost. Ang mukha ni Enoch na may “holy light”? Tunog kopya ng Book of Jasher. At ang account ng Noah’s flood? May hawig din sa Jasher.

Kung vision talaga ito galing sa Diyos, bakit parang nakasandal sa ibang writings na available noong panahon niya?

Sketches from the Life of Paul – Pulled Out for Plagiarism

Pinakamatindi siguro ang nangyari noong 1883, nang lumabas ang librong Sketches from the Life of Paul. 334 pages ito, at sa preface mismo, sabi ng publishers:

“Written with special help from the Spirit of God.”³

Pero teka lang—ilang taon matapos ilabas, may Adventist doctor (Dr. Stewart) na gumawa ng pamphlet na nag-compare side by side ang book ni Ellen White at yung classic work nina Conybeare at Howson, Life and Epistles of the Apostle Paul (1855). Resulta? Page after page, word for word, kopya.³

Walang credit. Walang acknowledgement. Walang quotation marks. At dahil dito, biglang winithdraw ang libro sa market. Hindi na rin kinikilala ngayon ng SDA church bilang “official Ellen White book.”

SDA General Conference Confession

Kung iniisip mong baka fake news lang ito, pakinggan mo ang mismong sinabi ng General Conference president A.G. Daniells noong 1919 conference:

“…We could never claim inspiration in the whole thought and make up of the book… Credits were not given to the proper authorities, and some of that crept into The Great Controversy… We read word for word, page after page, and no quotations, no credit… I supposed it was Sister White’s own work! … I saw the manifestation of the human in these writings.”⁴

Imagine the shock ng mga SDA ministers nang marinig ito! Kung yung Life of Paul plagiarized, paano pa yung Great Controversy at iba pa niyang books?

The Walter Rea and Veltman Bombshells

Fast forward to the 1980s. SDA pastor Walter Rea naglabas ng research: malawak ang plagiarism ni Ellen White—hindi lang 8–10% gaya ng laging depensa ng apologists, kundi minsan umaabot ng 90%.⁵

Dagdag pa, si Dr. Fred Veltman (isang SDA theologian) inatasan ng church na mag-aral ng Desire of Ages for 8 years. Ang resulta? At least 30% ng libro ay direct literary dependency, at sa ibang chapters, halos 90%.⁶

Pero eto ang pinaka-damaging quote ni Dr. Veltman:

 “It strikes at the heart of her honesty, her integrity, and therefore her trustworthiness.”⁶

Kung mismong SDA scholars na ang nagsasabi nito, ano pa kaya ang excuse?

The Cover-Up

Alam mo ba na yung transcript ng 1919 conference (kung saan openly kinuwestyon ang plagiarism ni Ellen White) ay tinago ng General Conference ng 55 years?⁴ Only in 1974 ito na-“discover” sa vault. Samantalang all that time, patuloy na pinapalabas sa mga members na “purely inspired” ang writings ni Ellen White.

Kung walang tinatago, bakit kailangan ng cover-up?

Reflection

Mga kapatid, kung si Ellen G. White ay tunay na propeta, dapat wala kang makikitang dishonesty o plagiarism sa kanyang writings. Pero kitang-kita natin—may mga librong biglang nawala, may plagiarized na buong chapters, at may cover-ups na tumagal ng halos isang siglo.

Hindi ba’t mas malinaw dito na ang writings niya ay gawa ng tao, hindi inspired ng Diyos?

Pastoral Appeal

Kaibigan, hindi mo kailangang malito. Hindi mo kailangang magtago sa mga “disappearing books.” Ang Salita ng Diyos ay hindi kailanman mawawala, hindi kailanman itatago sa vault, at hindi kailanman mahuhuli sa plagiarism.

Sabi ni Jesus: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

So ang tanong: saan mo itataya ang kaluluwa mo—sa mga aklat na nawala at binawi dahil plagiarized, o sa eternal Word of God that stands forever?
