“Pastor Ronald, yung Matthew 22:14—‘Many are invited, but few are chosen’—may kinalaman ba ito sa election ng Calvinism?”


ANSWER: 

Good question, yan! Pero actually, hindi directly tumutukoy ang “Many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14) sa Calvinistic election na “unconditional election.”

Kung titignan mo ang context, ‘yung parable ng wedding feast, si Jesus ay naglalarawan ng invitation ng Diyos sa Kanyang Kaharian. Maraming inimbitahan (Israel at iba pa), pero konti lang ang tumugon nang may tunay na pananampalataya at pagsunod. Ibig sabihin ng “few are chosen” dito ay ‘yung mga tumugon sa tawag sa paraan ng Diyos—sa pamamagitan ni Cristo at sa pananampalataya.

Hindi ito tungkol sa pre-selection bago pa man ipanganak ang tao, gaya ng sa Calvinism, kundi sa moral at faith response ng tao sa biyaya ng Diyos. Ang mga “chosen” ay ‘yung mga tinawag na tunay na sumagot at tinanggap ang imbitasyon ng ebanghelyo.

In short:

“Many are invited” = general call of the Gospel.
“Few are chosen” = those who respond in faith and obedience.

Hindi ito suporta sa unconditional election, kundi sa conditional election by faith in Christ.
