Question: "Pastor Ronald, valid po ba na i-link ang 'image of God' sa trichotomy, kahit si God ay Spirit at ang tao ay isang being lang?"

 

Good question and medyo deep ‘to ah, pang–theology class level! So ganito ‘yan: hindi automatically valid na i-link mo ang “image of God” sa trichotomy (yung idea na ang tao ay spirit, soul, at body tatlong parts).

Bakit? Kasi unang-una, sabi nga ng Biblia, “God is Spirit” (John 4:24). Hindi Siya composite being na may parts. So kung gagamitin natin ang “image of God” para ipaliwanag ang trichotomy, parang sinasabi nating ganun din si God may divisions which is theologically dangerous and unbiblical.

Pangalawa, sa Genesis 1:26–27, nung sinabi ni God, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,” wala Siyang sinabi tungkol sa tatlong bahagi ng tao. Ang focus ay functional and relational ibig sabihin, tayo ay ginawa para kumatawan sa Diyos, mamahala sa Kanyang nilikha, at makipag-ugnayan sa Kanya.

Ibig sabihin, ang “image of God” ay hindi tungkol sa structure ng ating kaluluwa, kundi sa character, moral capacity, at relational role natin bilang reflectors ng Kanyang nature.

Ngayon, may mga theologians (lalo na sa early church) na ginamit ang trichotomy bilang illustration parang analogy lang. Halimbawa, “Just as man has spirit, soul, and body, the triune God has Father, Son, and Spirit." Pero take note, illustration lang ‘yun, hindi doctrinal equation.

Kaya sagot ko straight-up:

Hindi valid na equate ang image of God sa trichotomy, kasi ‘yung image ay hindi tungkol sa kung ilang “parts” ang tao, kundi kung paano siya nilikha para magreflect ng Diyos sa moral at relational na paraan. Kung gusto mong sumaloob ng mas tamang framework, gamitin mo ang New Covenant view:

Ang “image of God” ay na-restore kay Cristo (Colossians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 3:18). Hindi ito structural, kundi transformational nagiging katulad tayo ni Cristo habang binabago tayo ng Espiritu.

So, summary:

• "Trichotomy" = possible psychological model.
• "Image of God" = relational and moral reflection of God.
• Don’t mix the two as if they’re the same thing.

Kung baga, yes, you can compare them, but don’t confuse them.
