1. Lesson Objective
To teach from Scripture that Christians can have confident assurance of salvation by trusting in God’s promises, walking in obedience, and remaining in Christ until the end.
2. Opening Prayer
"Father, thank You for the gift of salvation through Your Son. We ask for understanding of Your Word today, so that we may stand firm in faith and live with confidence in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
3. Question & Answer Bible Study with Exegetical Commentary
Q1: Can a Christian know they are saved?
A: Yes. The Bible promises assurance to those who believe in Christ.
Verse: 1 John 5:13 – “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
Commentary:
The phrase “so that you may know” means confidence, not guesswork. Salvation is not a vague hope—it’s a present reality for believers who trust in Christ.
Q2: On what is our assurance based?
A: Our assurance is based on God’s promises, not our feelings or performance.
Verse: John 10:28–29 – “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
Commentary:
Jesus Himself guarantees eternal life to His sheep. His promise is secure because it rests on God’s power, not our own ability.
Q3: If salvation is secure, why does the Bible warn us to remain faithful?
A: Because perseverance in faith is the evidence of genuine salvation.
Verse: Colossians 1:22–23 – “…if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.”
Commentary:
True believers continue in faith. Warnings in Scripture are like guardrails to keep us on the path. They do not weaken assurance—they strengthen it by keeping us close to Christ.
Q4: What role does obedience play in assurance?
A: Obedience is the fruit of salvation, not the root of it.
Verse: 1 John 2:3 – “We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.”
Commentary:
Our works do not save us, but they show the reality of our faith. Assurance grows when we walk in God’s ways.
Q5: How do I strengthen my assurance?
A: Stay connected to Christ through prayer, the Word, fellowship, and obedience.
Verse: John 15:5 – “If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Commentary:
The more you abide in Christ, the more His Spirit produces peace, joy, and confidence in your salvation.
