Gospel vs. “Gospel Adventism” — What’s the Big Deal?

Let’s get straight to it. There’s a huge difference between the biblical gospel and what some people call “Gospel Adventism.” It might sound similar at first, but when you dig deeper, you’ll see they’re worlds apart.

1. The Real Gospel = Jesus + Nothing Else

The true gospel is simple and life changing. It’s not about what you do — it’s about what Jesus already did.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)

  1. Salvation is a gift
  2. You receive it by faith
  3. Jesus did 100% of the work
  4. You’re made right with God the moment you believe (Romans 5:1)

No religious tests. No performance scorecards. Just grace.

2. “Gospel Adventism” = Jesus + Law-Keeping

Now here’s where it gets tricky. “Gospel Adventism” claims to believe in grace, but adds extra conditions:

  • You need to keep the Ten Commandments to stay saved
  • The Sabbath is a final test of loyalty
  • You must pass the Investigative Judgment
  • Assurance is never really guaranteed

In short, they use the word “gospel” but load it with Old Covenant requirements. It ends up being more about your obedience than about Jesus’ finished work.

Paul warned about this kind of “gospel”:

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel — which is really no gospel at all.” (Galatians 1:6–7)

3. Why Is This a Big Deal?

Mixing grace with law is dangerous because:

❌ It confuses people about salvation (Romans 7:1–4 calls this “spiritual adultery”)
❌ It robs you of assurance — you’re never “good enough”
❌ It adds the Sabbath as a test of salvation (Colossians 2:16–17 clearly warns against this)
❌ It turns Jesus into a Judge inspecting you, not a Savior rescuing you

It sounds holy, but it keeps people in fear and performance mode.

4. The True Gospel Sets You Free

Here’s the truth:
Jesus didn’t come to help you be “better.”
He came to be your perfect substitute.

His life, death, and resurrection are enough.

Through Him, you are:

✔ Fully accepted
✔ Fully forgiven
✔ Fully free

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, there’s a big difference between the gospel of grace and Gospel Adventism.

One gives you peace.
The other keeps you anxious and unsure.

The gospel is about resting in Christ, not resting on a day.

Choose the real gospel. Choose freedom in Jesus.
