How many times have we heard someone say, "Bakit ka naniniwala sa Bible? Ancient book 'yan na puno ng contradictions at errors!" Super common na 'tong linyahan na 'to, especially sa social media debates or even sa mga classroom discussions. Pero for us conservative evangelical Christians, we stand our ground. Naniniwala tayo sa tinatawag na Inerrancy of Scripture.
But what does that actually mean? Let’s break it down in a way na relate tayo.
What is Inerrancy, anyway?
Bago tayo mag-debate, clarify muna natin ang terms. When we say the Bible is inerrant, we mean na kapag nalaman na natin ang lahat ng facts, the Bible in its original manuscripts and properly interpreted ay mapapatunayang totoo at hinding-hindi false sa lahat ng sinasabi nito.
Whether it’s about doctrine, ethics, o kahit facts about social and physical sciences, the Bible is reliable. Three things to remember here:
Missing Data: Aminin natin, hindi pa natin alam ang lahat. Maraming historical data ang nawala na sa panahon, at marami pa tayong hinihintay na madiskubre ng archaeology.
Truth in Statements: Inerrancy applies to what the Bible affirms. Ibig sabihin, ang bawat statement ay totoo. Hindi ibig sabihin na walang "sinungaling" sa Bible; accurately recorded ang mga pagsisinungaling ng tao at ni Satanas para ituro sa atin ang katotohanan about God and our human condition.
Originals Matter: We are talking about the autographs (the original writings), not the typos in a modern translation.
4 Reasons Bakit Tayo Naniniwala na Walang Mali ang Bible
Bakit nga ba tayo confident? Here are four solid arguments:
1. The Biblical Argument (The Word on Itself)
Pinaka-importante ito. The Bible claims to be the "exhaled breath of God" (2 Timothy 3:16). Hindi lang ito basta sulat ng tao; it’s a divine-human book where the Holy Spirit guided the authors (2 Peter 1:21).
If God is the author, and God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19, Titus 1:2), then His Word must be 100% true. Even Jesus said na hindi lilipas ang langit at lupa hanggang hindi natutupad ang pinakamaliit na detalye ng Kautusan (Matthew 5:17-20).
2. The Historical Argument (Hindi ito Bagong Turo)
3. The Epistemological Argument (How do we know?)
It talks about things we can't see God, angels, heaven. Only an inerrant Bible gives us the assurance na totoo ang binabasa natin.
4. The Slippery Slope Argument
Ito yung reality check. Kapag sinimulan mong aminin na "may mali" sa Bible, madalas itong nagle-lead sa pag-give up ng iba pang core doctrines, like the deity of Christ or the substitutionary atonement. It’s a trend we’ve seen once you undermine the foundation of Scripture’s truthfulness, the whole house starts to shake.
"Pero wala na naman yung original manuscripts, 'di ba?"
Common objection ito. "Meaningless daw ang inerrancy kasi wala naman tayong hawak na original copies."
Pero wait, hindi 'yan totoo. Logic tells us we don't need the physical original piece of paper if two things are true:
We have thousands of high-quality copies (which we do!).
We have the science of Textual Criticism to determine what the original said.
Dahil sa dami ng manuscripts natin, we can be extremely confident that what we have today is what was originally written.
Real Talk Reflection
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness." 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
Call to Action: The next time you read your Bible, huwag kang mag-approach with a skeptical heart. Hindi ito ancient book of myths; it is God’s reliable communication to you. Challenge yourself today: Trust the Word even when it challenges your feelings or the current trends of culture. Kung ang God of the Universe ang nagsalita, sigurado tayong walang sablay 'yan.
