Bakit ba kailangan ng ganitong "extreme" measure? Simple lang: we are all tainted. Sabi sa Romans 5:12-21, damay tayo sa kasalanan ni Adam, at aminin natin, we are all sinners by choice din (Eph 2:1-3). God is a righteous Judge. Hindi Siya yung tipong "cool" lolo lang na magsasabing, “Hayaan mo na, boys will be boys.” No, because sin violates His very nature and ruins the world He created. Sin must be punished. At dahil lahat tayo ay lumabag sa batas ng Diyos, we deserve the full weight of that punishment.
Here are three ways how His death makes forgiveness possible for us:
1. The Ultimate Sacrifice
Every Day of Atonement, winisikan ng dugo yung mercy seat sa Holy of Holies. Sa ilalim nun, nandoon ang Ten Commandments a reminder of how the people failed. Pero nung dumating si Jesus, He became both the High Priest and the Sacrifice (Hebrews 5–10). He didn't just cover the law; He fulfilled it. Law met Grace, and Grace won.
2. Propitiation (The "Pampalubag-loob" of God)
Medyo "nosebleed" ang term na propitiation or hilasmos, but it basically means an offering that satisfies God’s wrath. Nung sumigaw Siya sa krus ng, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”, it’s because the Father was pouring out that wrath on Him instead of us. He made the One who knew no sin to be sin for us (2 Cor 5:21). Grabe 'yung exchange na 'yun, 'di ba?
3. The Great Substitution
He came to give His life as a "ransom for many" (Mark 10:45). Sabi nga ni Isaiah, He was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities.
By faith and faith alone tinatanggap natin itong forgiveness na ito. Hindi ito dahil sa "utang na loob" or dahil sinusubukan nating magpaka-bait, but because we trust what He finished on the cross. The result? Eternal life. Safe tayo sa Kanya.
Real Talk Reflection
"He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." — 2 Corinthians 5:21
Take a moment to pray and thank Jesus for the "Ultimate Swap." Isuko mo sa Kanya yung mga guilt at bigat na dala-dala mo, and start living like someone who is truly forgiven and loved. Trust the finished work of Christ!
