FAP Indoctrination Series #4: What is the True Gospel?

Lesson Objective

To define the biblical gospel as the good news of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in the finished work of Christ alone, apart from law-keeping, religious performance, or denominational loyalty.

Opening Prayer (5 minutes)

Ask the Lord to open hearts to His saving truth and for clarity about the sufficiency of Christ’s work.

I. What Does “Gospel” Mean? (5 min)

Definition:

The word gospel means “good news.” It’s the message that sinners can be reconciled to God not by what they do, but by what Christ has done.

Key Verse:

"Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel I preached to you, which you received, on which you have taken your stand and by which you are being saved, if you hold to the message I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (CSB)

II. The Gospel in Contrast to SDA Teaching (10 min)

Biblical Gospel:

  • Salvation is entirely by grace (Ephesians 2:8-9)

"For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 (CSB)

  • Justification is by faith alone (Romans 3:28)

"For we conclude that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law." Romans 3:28 (CSB)

  • Christ’s death fully atones for sin (Hebrews 10:10-14)

"By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time. Every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices time after time, which can never take away sins. But this man, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. He is now waiting until his enemies are made his footstool. For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified." Hebrews 10:10-14 (CSB)

  • Assurance is found in Christ’s finished work (John 5:24)

“Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life." John 5:24 (CSB)

SDA Gospel:

  • Faith + law-keeping = salvation
  • The Investigative Judgment decides final salvation
  • No assurance until end-time vindication
  • Sabbath observance is central to the final test

Illustration:

Two ladders: one reaching heaven by Christ alone, the other by endless climbing through works. Which will reach the top?

III. The Elements of the True Gospel (10 min)

  • God’s Holiness and Man’s Sin (Romans 3:23)

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 (CSB)

  • Christ’s Perfect Life and Sacrificial Death (2 Corinthians 5:21)

"He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21 (CSB)

  • His Resurrection as Victory over Sin and Death (Romans 4:25)

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." Romans 4:25 (CSB)

  • Salvation Offered as a Free Gift (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9)

"For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 (CSB)

"For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 (CSB)

  • Received by Faith Alone, Not by Works (Romans 4:5)

"But to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness." Romans 4:5 (CSB)

IV. Decision Time: Which Gospel Will You Trust? (5 min)

Ask participants:

  • Have you believed the biblical gospel?
  • Or are you still trusting in faith plus works and religious performance?

Closing Prayer (5 minutes)

Thank God for the simple, powerful, and sufficient gospel that saves all who believe.

FAP Indoctrination Series #3: The Authority of Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura)

Lesson Objective

To establish that the Bible alone is the highest and final authority in all matters of faith and practice, rejecting any claim of modern prophets or denominational authority (such as Ellen G. White or SDA Church leadership) equal to or above Scripture.

Opening Prayer (5 minutes)

The leader or volunteer prays for discernment and courage to submit to God’s Word alone.

I. What Is Sola Scriptura? (10 min)

Definition:

Sola Scriptura (Latin: “Scripture Alone”) means the Bible is the supreme authority for the Christian faith, above church councils, traditions, or human opinions.

Key Verses:

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (CSB)

"Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path." Psalms 119:105 (CSB)

"The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." Acts 17:11 (CSB)

II. Ellen G. White’s Claim to Authority (10 min)

SDA Position:

SDAs officially state Ellen White’s writings are an inspired, authoritative source of truth for the church.

Key Statements:

“Her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction…” (27 Fundamental Beliefs, #17)

Problem:

Ellen White’s conflicting statements with Scripture on doctrines like Investigative Judgment, Sabbath-keeping for salvation, and final atonement.

III. The Dangers of Adding to God’s Word (15 min)

Key Verses:

"You must not add anything to what I command you or take anything away from it, so that you may keep the commands of the LORD your God I am giving you." Deuteronomy 4:2 (CSB)

"I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, which are written about in this book." Revelation 22:18-1 (CSB)

Illustration:

Imagine a contract signed by the King. If anyone adds a new rule or changes its terms, it invalidates the agreement.

Lesson: God’s Word is a finished, complete revelation.

Note: Creeds and confessions are subordinate summaries of Scripture, unlike Ellen White’s claimed revelations.

IV. Decision Time: Whose Word Will You Trust? (5 min)

Ask:

  • Will you trust Scripture alone?

  • Or continue relying on extra-biblical revelations?

Closing Prayer (5 minutes)

Thank God for preserving His Word and for giving the Holy Spirit to lead us into truth.

FAP Indoctrination Series #2: What is the True Church?

Lesson Objective

To explain the biblical definition of the true Church as the body of believers saved by grace through faith in Christ and to dismantle the false claim that any denomination (including the SDA Church) holds exclusive remnant status.

Opening Prayer (5 minutes)

I. The Church in the New Testament (10 min)

  • The word “church” (Greek ekklesia) means “called-out ones.”
  • It refers to all believers in Jesus Christ, not an institution.

Key Verse:

"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it." Matthew 16:18 (CSB)

II. Marks of the True Church (15 min)

Based on biblical teaching:

1.) Preaches the true Gospel (Galatians 1:8-9)

"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, a curse be on him! As we have said before, I now say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, a curse be on him!" Galatians 1:8-9 (CSB)

2.) Administers baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Acts 2:41-42)

"So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer." Acts 2:41-42 (CSB)

3.) Practices church discipline (Matthew 18:15-17)

“If your brother sins against you, go tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he won’t listen, take one or two others with you, so that by the testimony of two or three witnesses every fact may be established. If he doesn’t pay attention to them, tell the church. If he doesn’t pay attention even to the church, let him be like a Gentile and a tax collector to you." Matthew 18:15-17 (CSB)

4.) Teaches the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27)

"Because I did not avoid declaring to you the whole plan of God." Acts 20:27 (CSB)

5.) Exists wherever believers gather in Jesus' name (Matthew 18:20)

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:20 (CSB)

Illustration: A hospital isn’t a building—it’s wherever doctors and nurses treat patients. Similarly, the Church is where believers worship Christ together.

III. Debunking the “Remnant Church” Claim (10 min)

Key Points:

  • The SDA Church claims to be the only true remnant.
  • The Bible teaches that the remnant are those faithful to Christ across history, in any place.

Key Verse:

Revelation 12:17 (properly interpreted in its original context) refers to faithful believers in Christ across history, in any place. Not an institutionalized denomination

"So the dragon was furious with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring—those who keep the commands of God and hold firmly to the testimony about Jesus." Revelation 12:17 (CSB)

IV. Decision Time (5 min)

Will you trust in Christ’s universal Church or an institution claiming exclusivity?

Closing Prayer (5 min)

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for revealing through Your Word the truth about Your Church, not as a denomination or earthly institution claiming exclusive authority, but as the body of believers called out by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you for reminding us today that the true Church is built upon the unshakable foundation of Christ alone and that it stretches across generations, nations, and congregations of those who trust in His finished work.

In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
