Question:
"Pastor Ronald, maaari bang gamitin ni Satanas ang biblical exegesis at mga magagaling na iskolar para dayain ang tao, at lampasan ang human intellect?"
Answer:
YES, Satan can use biblical language, exegesis, and even scholars. BUT NO, that does not mean every systematic approach or serious theology is deception.
Let’s unpack it carefully.
1. Satan has always used Scripture, but twisted it.
Hindi assumption ito Bible mismo ang nagsabi.
Example #1: Satan using Scripture vs. Jesus (Matthew 4:6)
Example #2: The Serpent and Eve (Genesis 3:1) “Did God really say…?” Hindi siya nag-quote, pero nag-exegete with distortion.
Example #3: False teachers in apostolic times
• “twisting the Scriptures” (2 Peter 3:16)
• using “clever arguments” (Col. 2:4–8)
• appearing as “angels of light” (2 Cor. 11:14)
Satan does not fight truth with obvious lies. He fights truth with almost-truths.
2. Satan’s deception is not about IQ; it’s about the heart.
Tama ka mas matalino siya sa tao. Pero tandaan mo ito: Deception only works where the heart is willing to be deceived.
Hindi nalilinlang ang taong may:
• humility
• submission to Christ
• willingness to obey
• openness to biblical correction
• dependence on the Holy Spirit
Kaya sabi ni Jesus: “If anyone is willing to do God’s will, he will know the teaching.” — John 7:17
3. Not all scholarship is demonic. God also uses scholars.
Si Paul, si Luke, si Apollos lahat trained.
• Paul studied under Gamaliel
• Luke is a physician-historian
• Apollos is “mighty in Scriptures”
• The early church fathers defended truth against heresy
• Reformation happened through scholarly biblical work
Kung automatic-deception ang scholarship, edi lahat sila servant of Satan. Pero hindi ganun. Satan uses scholars. But God also raises scholars to defend the truth. The method is not the enemy. The heart using the method is the issue.
4. Systematic theology is not inherently deceptive; it is unavoidable.
Every Christian has a system, kahit ayaw nila.
• Kung naniniwala kang “God is love,” system yan.
• Kung naniniwala kang “Jesus is God,” system yan.
• Kung naniniwala kang “Bible is authoritative,” system yan.
The question is not whether systematic theology exists. The real question is:
Sino ang nagle-lead sa interpretation?
— pride or humility?
— flesh of Spirit?
— tradition of Scripture?
Systematic theology becomes deception ONLY WHEN it stops submitting to Scripture.
5. Yes, Satan can deceive brilliant intellectuals
BUT he cannot deceive the sheep who cling to Jesus. Jesus said:
“My sheep hear My voice… they will not follow a stranger.” — John 10:4–5
That is the believer’s safety net.
- Hindi IQ.
- Hindi degrees.
- Hindi galing sa Greek or Hebrew.
But the Shepherd Himself.
The Spirit protects.
The Word guides.
The church discerns.
Satan can outsmart scholars, but he cannot outsmart the Holy Spirit.
6. The real danger is not systematic theology…The real danger is prideful autonomy.
Satan’s #1 deception is this:
- “You can interpret apart from submission.”
- “You can be right without obedience.”
- “You can know God without surrender.”
Even a simple believer can resist the lies of hell.
7. Bottom line:
YES, Satan can twist the Bible.
YES, he can influence scholars.
YES, deception is real and sophisticated.
BUT if you’ve surrendered to Christ, walking in the Spirit, and rooted in Scripture, you’re not just protected, you’re unshakeable. Satan can overcome human intellect, but he cannot overcome the One who lives in you: “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” — 1 John 4:4
